It could be you if ALL of the following apply:
you’re married or in a civil partnership
you don’t earn anything or your income is £11,850 or less
your partner’s income is between £11,851 and £46,350 (or £43,430 if you’re in Scotland)
and you are not already claiming Marriage Allowance.
This allowance is worth up to £238 a year, and can be backdated to include any tax year since 5 April 2015 that you were eligible, boosting your payment to £900.
(NB If you partner has since died you are still able to make a claim).
You can apply online here:
https://www.gov.uk/apply-marriage-allowance
HMRC says it takes fewer than 10 minutes to complete, and once your application is complete it's processed immediately. If you are eligible then you will receive a backdated claim of up to £662 as a lump sum.
We'd love to hear from you, and what you spend the money on, if this post spurs you into action and you receive some money back.
